Welcome to
School of Dental Medicine

The School of Dental Medicine (SDM) Predoctoral Dental (DMD) Education Program is the newest addition to the Ponce Health Sciences University (PHSU) academic offerings. The establishment of this program represents PHSU’s commitment to providing additional training opportunities that will benefit all sectors of southern Puerto Rico. For more than six years, our institution has meticulously planned and designed all aspects of the educational experience that will be provided to our students. This process ultimately led to the initial accreditation by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA). We are excited to welcome our first class in August 2024. The DMD program will receive applications for the August 2024 class in late Summer 2023

Our Mission

The Mission of the PHSU-SDM will be to prepare culturally competent, excellence driven, ethical dental practitioners with the empathy and academic preparation to provide dental care to underserved populations.

To accomplish this, the School is committed to a curriculum design of four interrelated activities: teaching, research, patient care, and service. Development and discovery, dissemination, and use of knowledge toward enhancing oral health and overall health is a major component of our mission.

Diversity

Our institution strives to expose students and faculty to a diverse population so they can succeed in an increasingly diverse workplace and global communication culture. An academic environment fostering interaction among diverse students and faculty will significantly prepare our graduates to provide the high-quality care all communities deserve.
