Como parte del proyecto de expansión de las instalaciones de Ponce Health Sciences University, se anunció el nombramiento del Dr. Noel Aymat como el decano de la primera Escuela de Medicina Dental privada en Puerto Rico que se sumará a los ofrecimientos académicos de la universidad. Se espera que esta nueva escuela inicie con el programa del Doctorado en Medicina Dental (DMD). Este programa está sometido para obtener las acreditaciones de la Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA), agencia que acredita y estandariza la educación para programas de educación dental.
“El reclutamiento del Dr. Noel Aymat marca un punto importante en el crecimiento y desarrollo de nuevas oportunidades académicas en Ponce Health Sciences University que van dirigidas a ofrecer servicios de salud a nuestra población. El doctor Aymat es un recurso valioso y altamente calificado para asumir este nuevo rol, el cual ayudará a cumplir con éxito el inicio de nuestra Escuela de Medicina Dental”, indicó el Dr. José A. Torres Ruiz, rector de Ponce Health Sciences University, quien añadió que la apertura de esta escuela dental en Puerto Rico representa una oportunidad a otros candidatos interesados en esta disciplina a que tengan alternativas para solicitar a este programa.
El doctor Aymat posee un doctorado en medicina dental del Recinto de Ciencias Médicas de la Universidad de Puerto Rico, donde, además, fungió como rector y facultativo. Aymat llevó a cabo su residencia como dentista pediátrico en Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center de Nueva York y, más adelante, obtuvo un Juris Doctor de la Escuela de Derecho de la Universidad de Puerto Rico. También es miembro de la Comisión de Pacientes con Necesidades Especiales del Colegio de Cirujanos Dentistas de Puerto Rico.
“Me siento muy honrado en poder ser parte de este gran proyecto educativo. A través de mis años laborales he podido desempeñarme en roles dentro del campo de educación superior. Con este proyecto, definitivamente lograremos satisfacer la necesidad de más profesionales de la salud dental en la isla”, expresó el doctor Aymat.
La nueva Escuela de Medicina Dental de PHSU, que se espera inicie en agosto de 2023, ofrecerá el Doctorado en Medicina Dental, preparando a los estudiantes para la práctica de la odontología general y proporcionándoles un plan de estudios educativos de alta calidad que integre el conocimiento basado en la evidencia y el desarrollo de habilidades clínicas para la práctica de la odontología. El currículo está diseñado para que este programa sea culminado en cuatro años de estudios.
Ponce Health Sciences University es una institución universitaria con un enfoque en las disciplinas de Medicina, Psicología Clínica, Ciencias Biomédicas, Salud Pública y Enfermería. Desde 1977 ha desarrollado profesionales altamente capacitados en el campo de la salud. Dean of the first private School of Dental Medicine in Puerto Rico
Dr. Noel Aymat will be in charge of the development of new dentists
As part of the expansion project of Ponce Health Sciences University’s facilities, Dr. Noel Aymat was announced as the dean of the first private School of Dental Medicine in Puerto Rico to join the university’s academic offerings. This new school is expected to start with the Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) program. This program is in the process of obtaining accreditation from the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA), an agency that accredits and standardizes education for dental education programs.
“The recruitment of Dr. Noel Aymat marks an important point in the growth and development of new academic opportunities at Ponce Health Sciences University that are aimed at offering health services to our population. Dr. Aymat is a valuable and highly qualified resource to assume this new role, which will help to successfully complete the start of our School of Dental Medicine,” said Dr. Jose A. Torres Ruiz, chancellor of Ponce Health Sciences University, who added that the opening of this dental school in Puerto Rico represents an opportunity for other candidates interested in this discipline to have alternatives to apply to this program.
Dr. Aymat holds a Doctorate in Dental Medicine from the University of Puerto Rico Medical Sciences Campus, where he also served as Chancellor and Faculty. Aymat completed his residency as a pediatric dentist at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center in New York and later obtained a Juris Doctor from the University of Puerto Rico School of Law. He is also a member of the Commission of Patients with Special Needs of the College of Dental Surgeons of Puerto Rico.
“I am very honored to be part of this great educational project. Throughout my working years I have been able to perform in roles within the field of higher education. With this project, we will definitely meet the need for more dental health professionals on the island,” said Dr. Aymat.
PHSU’s new School of Dental Medicine, expected to begin in August 2023, will offer the Doctor of Dental Medicine, preparing students for the practice of general dentistry and providing them with a high-quality educational curriculum that integrates evidence-based knowledge and clinical skills development for the practice of dentistry. The curriculum is designed for this program to be completed in four years of study.
