Ponce Researchers are presented with the Merck Innovator Award
Dr. Caroline Appleyard, Dr. Idhaliz Flores, Dr. Annelyn Torres and Dr. Kenira Thompson, along with Siomara Hernandez (student in Ph.D. Program in Biomedical Sciences) and Myrella Cruz, lab technician, were honored the Merck Innovator award in Research in Carolina, Puerto Rico on October 28, 2014. This team was recognized for their project examining the role of stress on the progression of endometriosis. During the same event, the Health Education Award was bestowed to the team led by Dr. Saylisse Davila (UPR-Mayaguez), Dr. Idhaliz Flores (PHSU-PRI), and students from both institutions for developing an endometriosis risk assessment application.

First Puerto Rico Cancer Research Meeting
Local and international investigators in the field of cancer research field were united at the 1st Puerto Rico Cancer Research Meeting held at the Verdanza Hotel in Isla Verde, PR on October 3, 2014. Students and faculty from Universidad Central del Caribe (UCC) and Ponce Health Sciences University (PHSU) produced an outstanding scientific gathering to provide a forum on the island for promoting local scientific research, networking and collaborative opportunities in all areas of cancer research.

PHSU Professor Accepted into CRECD Program
Dr. Eida Castro, Assistant Professor (Psychology Program and Psychiatry Department), was accepted into the prestigious Continued Mentoring and Career Development Program (CRECD Phase II) of the Master of Science in Clinical Research (MSc) at UPR-MSC.

The Ebola Epidemic: The Keys to success for the International Response
Dr. Anne Peterson, Vice Dean of Public Health Program, has been invited to testify before the U.S. Senate Committee on Foreign Relations Subcommittee on African Affairs at a hearing entitled "The Ebola Epidemic: The Keys to success for the International Response.
